So, what does it take to be successful and win at dog shows? Besides having a dog who is a correct representative of his/her breed, you also need the dog to enjoy their “job.” Part of what makes a successful show dog is showmanship. A show dog needs to be able to perform and look like they enjoy it and we do this through positive reinforcement techniques.
An important piece of the success puzzle is the relationship between the dog and the handler. In order for the dog to enjoy what they are doing and feel comfortable and relaxed in the ring, they need to have a strong connection or relationship with the handler, whether the handler is the breeder, owner, or a professional handler. Positive reinforcement training can help strengthen that bond.
